Solidarity Times
During the Solidarity crisis of 1983 a weekly newspaper, Solidarity Times, began publishing. The first issue was published on October 15 and nine issues in total were printed.
Solidarity Times was financed by Operation Solidarity and the BC Teachers’ Federation. The editor was Stan Persky and the City Editor was Keith Baldrey. In its short run it published articles on a wide range of social issues and operated from a left-wing perspective. It successfully won membership in the legislative press gallery after much debate.
Operation Solidarity’s leadership stopped financing the paper in December 1983 and it folded.
